Amanda J. Simonton, PhD, APRN, PMHNP-BC is a licensed pediatric psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner in UT Health Austin Pediatric Psychiatry at Dell Children's, a clinical partnership between Dell Children's Medical Center and UT Health Austin. She specializes in treating individuals with dual-diagnosed substance use and mental health disorders. Additionally, Dr. Simonton is a clinical assistant professor in the School of Nursing at The University of Texas at Austin.
Amanda Simonton earned her doctorate in philosophy, master’s in nursing, and bachelor’s in nursing from The University of Texas at Austin.
Amanda Simonton previously worked as a bedside nurse in the Intermediate Care Unit at Seton Medical Center Austin as well as the Psychiatric Emergency Department at the University Medical Center Brackenridge. She has primarily worked in outpatient, residential, and medically monitored withdrawal facilities to treat individuals with dual-diagnosed substance use and mental health disorders. Her research and clinical interests include improving the lives of individuals with substance use disorders and youth struggling with mental health issues through the use of evidence-based care and best practices in the field of psychiatry and psychology. She presents at the annual conferences for Texas Nurse Practitioners and the American Psychiatric Nurses Association. She also serves on both the Policy Council for Texas Nurse Practitioners and the Board of Directors for the American Psychiatric Nurses Association Texas Chapter.
