Brittany Barnhill, MS, CCLS, is a certified child life specialist in the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease, the clinical partnership between Dell Children’s Medical Center and UT Health Austin. She specializes in child development and provides emotional support to hospitalized children and their families to minimize any stress, anxiety, or psychosocial trauma.
Brittany Barnhill earned both her master’s in human development and family studies and her bachelor’s in family and child development form Texas State University. She completed an internship in child life at the Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital Pensacola. She also completed pre-nursing studies at The University of Texas at San Antonio. During her practicum with Wonder and Worries, she worked with children of adult patients. She is also trained in group and individual CISM (critical incident stress management).
Brittany Barnhill has worked with Child Life Disaster Relief to provide psychosocial support to children who have experienced natural and/or man-made disasters. She recently participated in research projects focusing on the effects of sound on children in pediatric and neonatal intensive care units. She has also participated in nutrition and neurodevelopmental projects with the National Pediatric Cardiology Quality Improvement Collaborative and has led studies on pediatric palliative care and pediatric delirium in pediatric intensive care units. She is a member of Association of Child Life Professionals and Texas Association of Child Life Professionals.
