Clinical Biography

Elsa V. Arocho-Quiñones, MD, is a pediatric neurosurgeon in the Pediatric Neurosurgery Center within UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children’s, a clinical partnership between Dell Children's Medical Center and UT Health Austin. She specializes in the treatment of brain and spinal trauma, hydrocephalus, pediatric spinal disorders, central nervous system tumors, refractory epilepsy, and pediatric cerebrovascular disorders. Additionally, Dr. Arocho-Quiñones is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Neurosurgery.

Dr. Arocho-Quiñones earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch and her bachelor's in chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico - Rio Piedras Campus. She completed a neurosurgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals as well as the prestigious Shillito pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Arocho-Quiñones has a special interest in minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques and the surgical care of children with refractory epilepsy, arteriovenous malformations, and Moyamoya disease. Her research efforts have been focused on quality improvement studies for minimizing surgical site and implant-related infections as well as the use of minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of common neurosurgical conditions, including brain tumors and refractory epilepsy. She has presented her work at both national and international meetings and has published in several journals, including the Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics, World Neurosurgery, and PLOS ONE. She is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

Dr. Arocho-Quiñones is a pediatric neurosurgeon with UT Health Austin.
