Marcella Maxwell, MA, LMFT, LPC, is a licensed professional counselor in UT Health Austin Pediatric Psychiatry at Dell Children’s, a clinical partnership between Dell Children’s Medical Center and UT Health Austin. She serves as the Director of Dell Children’s Educational Advocacy Program, where she helps patients transition from hospitalization back into the academic setting as quickly and safely as possible while also educating the faculty and staff on the patient’s physical and mental health needs. She specializes in providing advocacy and consultation services across both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Additionally, Marcella Maxwell is a health professional specialist in the Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
Marcella Maxwell earned both her master’s in counseling and her bachelor’s in psychology from St. Edward’s University, where she studied child and adolescent cognitive behavioral therapy and family therapy.
Marcella Maxwell previously served on the Dell Children’s psychology consultation and liaison team, where she conducted psychological assessments and provided brief evidenced-based treatment for children and adolescents with complex medical histories and those diagnosed with anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression through the Texas Child Study Center. She also runs a research lab, supervising both undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin. Her research interests include school refusal in medically fragile children, COVID-19 psychological effects on chronically ill children and their families, and access to care through telehealth.
