Terry Edwards, Jr., LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker in UT Health Austin Pediatric Psychiatry at Dell Children's, a clinical partnership between Dell Children's Medical Center and UT Health Austin. He is also a part of UT Health Austin’s Integrated Behavioral Health care team. He specializes in enhancing the well-being and function of children and family through engagement, assessment, intervention, and evaluation. Additionally, Terry Edwards is a pediatric licensed counselor in the Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
Terry Edwards earned both his master’s in clinical social work with a clinical concentration in children and families and his bachelor’s in criminology and psychology with an emphasis on emotional and motivational factors in maladaptive behavior from The Ohio State University. He has training in non-violent crisis intervention as well as various therapeutic modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and solution-focused brief therapy.
Terry Edwards has applied his clinical expertise with efforts to create behavioral change and resolve emotional problems as well as advocate for children, adolescents, and families in the juvenile justice system, the child welfare system, the educational system, mentorship programs, and other multifaceted systems that impact youth. He has a particular interest in restorative practices and its implications for the emotional and mental well-being of youth. In the current societal climate, this element is essential in order to foster positive steps forward in the implementation of techniques to learn to resolve disagreements, take ownership of behavior, and engage in acts of empathy and forgiveness.
