Clinical Biography
Anthony “Tony” Zapata, MD, is a board-certified pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist in the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease, the clinical partnership between UT Health Austin and Dell Children’s Medical Center. He specializes in pediatric cardiac anesthesia. Additionally, Dr. Zapata is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care.
Dr. Zapata earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and his bachelor’s in biology with a minor of Chemistry from The University of Texas—Pan American. He completed a residency in anesthesiology at Baylor College of Medicine, a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Children’s National Hospital/George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and a second fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Zapata’s clinical interests include perioperative management of complex congenital cardiac lesions and expanding the use of multimodal techniques for procedural sedation in pediatrics.
