About This Clinic
The Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic is a specialty clinic within UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children’s, a clinical partnership between Dell Children’s Medical Center and UT Health Austin.
The Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic diagnoses, treats, and manages the care of children and adolescents who are experiencing mobility limitations as a result of medical conditions of the central nervous system that may be affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, or tendons. We offer expertise across a variety of mobility limitations, such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury. Our goal is to enhance and restore your child’s functional ability so that they can return to carrying out activities of their daily living.
The Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic care team is comprised of nationally recognized physicians and advanced practice providers who offer highly specialized care for pediatric patients who are experiencing mobility limitations as a result of medical conditions of the central nervous system. Our physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists also participate in many of our multidisciplinary specialty centers that focus on specific complex populations. If your child has a condition that aligns with one of our specialty centers, we will coordinate care for your child with a specialist in that area. We can also facilitate appointments with any other neuroscience specialty clinic, such as the Pediatric Neurology Clinic, Pediatric Neuro-Ophthalmology Clinic, Pediatric Neuropsychology Clinic, and Pediatric Neurosurgery Clinic. With access to expert staff and advanced technology for treating both acute and chronic neurological conditions, we provide a wide range of services, from evaluation, testing, and diagnosis to surgical treatment, disease management, rehabilitation, and more, to give patients and their families the best quality of life.

The Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic care team offers the most up-to-date care that begins with a thorough evaluation in the clinic and includes a compassionate and informed discussion about the best approach to management and/or surgical intervention for your child’s concerns. By focusing on the overall health of patients, our team strongly believes in the inclusion of the family in medical and surgical decision making and encourages discussions and considerations about functional and quality of life outcomes. We work with you to understand your child’s history as well as their current concerns and design a treatment and/or follow-up plan that is specific to your goals and needs. Our diagnostic and treatment capabilities within the Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic are aligned with state-of-the-art neurological care and include 3T MRI, three-dimensional stereo-EEG, muscle ultrasound, electromyography (EMG), botulinum toxin injection, functional MRI (fMRI), magnetoencephalography (MEG), MR spectroscopy, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Our seamless affiliation with Dell Children’s Medical Center also allows us to offer the highest level of expertise across both inpatient and outpatient settings to enhance treatment precision and improve our understanding of your child’s concern.
Patients are cared for by a dedicated multidisciplinary care team, meaning your child will benefit from the expertise of multiple specialists across a variety of disciplines. Our board-certified and fellowship-trained pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists have extensive experience in maximizing medical and functional outcomes in children and adolescents of all ages, from birth through young adulthood, with rehabilitation needs and work alongside a team of pediatric specialists, including neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, epileptologists, physical and occupational therapists, physician assistants, nurses, advanced practice providers, social workers, child life specialists, dietitians, and more, providing unparalleled care for patients and their families every step of the way.
We also collaborate closely with referring physicians, pediatricians, and other partners in the community to schedule and coordinate any additional care services your child may need. Our specialists can provide input and guidance for areas of your child’s life that are affected by their medical condition by assisting with school services, school re-entry, socialization, and engagement in physical activities. All of these areas impact your child’s quality of life and are an integral part of our mission at the Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic.
