Clinical Biography
Amanda McKinney, DNP, CPNP-AC, is a licensed acute care pediatric nurse practitioner in the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease, a clinical partnership between Dell Children’s Medical Center and UT Health Austin. She specializes in caring for inpatient heart surgery patients pre-, intra-, and post-operatively.
Amanda McKinney earned her bachelor’s in nursing and Spanish from the University of Virginia. She earned both her doctorate degree in nursing practice and her master’s degree in nursing with a focus on acute care pediatrics from Vanderbilt University. She also earned her acute care pediatric nurse practitioner certification.
Amanda McKinney previously served as a nurse in the newborn intensive care unit (NICU), pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), pediatric hematology and oncology wards, and with cardiac surgery patients in a Level IV NICU. During her doctoral program, her research involved the use of ultrasound guided imagery for peripheral intravenous access. Her current research interests include nutrition and feeding in the cardiac patient.
