Charles D. Fraser, III, MD

Clinical Biography

Charles D. Fraser, III, MD, is a board-certified pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon in the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease, a clinical partnership between Dell Children’s Medical Center and UT Health Austin. He specializes in the surgical management of congenital heart disease in children and adults. Additionally, Dr. Fraser is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at The University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Fraser earned his medical degree from McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, MD. He completed both an internship and residency in general surgery, as well as a research fellowship in cardiac surgery at the Cardiac Surgery Research Laboratory at The Johns Hopkins Hospital through The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He also completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania through the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and a fellowship in congenital cardiac surgery at Children's Hospital Colorado through the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Dr. Fraser’s clinical interests include the surgical management of congenital heart disease in both children and adults, with a particular focus on complex neonatal heart surgery, valve repair, airway disease, and aortic disease in children and young adults. His research interests center on outcomes-based assessments following pediatric heart surgery. He has presented at national and international meetings and has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, as well as other commentaries and book chapters. He is a member of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
