Clinical Biography
Claire Sokas, MD, MPH, is a board-certified colon and rectal surgeon in Digestive Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension and UT Health Austin. She specializes in the treatment and prevention of colon, rectal, and anal cancers; surgical treatment of inflammatory bowel disease; management of benign colon and anorectal conditions; and women’s health. Additionally, Dr. Sokas is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at The University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Sokas earned her medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College and her master's in public health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She completed a residency in general surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a research fellowship at the Center for Surgery and Public Health, and a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
Dr. Sokas' research focuses on understanding what matters most to patients facing surgery, especially older adults.
Dr. Sokas is a colorectal surgeon with UT Health Austin.
