Constantine D. Mavroudis, MD, MSc, MTR, is a board-certified pediatric and congenital heart surgeon in the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease, a clinical partnership between Dell Children’s Medical Center and UT Health Austin. He specializes in congenital cardiac surgery and critical care. Additionally, Dr. Mavroudis is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at The University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Mavroudis earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Williams College, both his medical degree and his master’s degree in clinical research methods from Loyola University Chicago, and his master’s degree in translational research at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a fellowship in pediatric and congenital cardiac surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he served as a faculty member and attending surgeon in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Dr. Mavroudis’s research focuses on improving the understanding of the mechanisms underlying neurological injury during cardiac surgery and mechanical circulatory support. Through the development of a collaborative porcine model of cardiopulmonary bypass and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) with multimodal neuromonitoring, he and his collaborators are investigating cerebral mitochondrial function, novel biomarkers of brain injury, noninvasive neuromonitoring strategies, and therapeutic targets to address the persistent problem of neurological injury during and after cardiac surgery. He currently serves as an associate editor of The Annals of Thoracic Surgery and is an active member of the editorial boards of The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and Cardiology in the Young. He has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed papers, 16 textbook chapters, and co-edited a textbook on the bioethical considerations associated with congenital heart disease.

Dr. Mavroudis is a pediatric and congenital heart surgeon with UT Health Austin.
