Clinical Biography

Harras Zaid, MD is a urologic oncologist in Urology, a clinical partnership between Ascension and UT Health Austin. He is a fellowship-trained urologic oncologist and has a variety of clinical interests including cancers of the following organ sites: kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate, penis, testicle, and adrenal. He performs robotic and complex open surgeries and has been involved in the development of outpatient clinical care pathways for patients with bladder cancer. In addition, he is an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School.

Dr. Zaid obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Davis, and then matriculated at the University of California, San Francisco for medical school. As a medical student, he was awarded a Howard Hughes Medical Institute fellowship for an additional year of basic science research. He completed a urologic surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and then a two-year fellowship in urologic oncology at the Mayo Clinic. Prior to moving to Austin, Zaid practiced at the Lahey Clinic near Boston, MA for 5 years, where his practice spanned the entire spectrum of urologic cancers. He was also an assistant professor at Tufts University and was closely aligned with medical students and resident education. He was awarded the Residency Teaching Award by the Lahey Clinic urology residents while there.

He has published over 35 articles, acts as a peer reviewer for a number of urology journals, and has spoken nationally on various topics in urologic oncology. He is passionate about providing the highest level and most compassionate urologic care for all patients in Central Texas and training the next generation of urologists.
