Janie Black, PhD, is a licensed pediatric psychologist in UT Health Austin Pediatric Psychiatry at Dell Children's, a clinical partnership between Dell Children's Medical Center and UT Health Austin. She specializes in providing family-based therapeutic intervention for eating disorders and works with children and adolescents who are struggling with gender dysphoria by providing cognitive behavioral interventions and consulting with their physicians to support them through the diagnostic and transitioning process. Additionally, Dr. Black is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Black earned both her doctorate and master’s in clinical psychology from Fielding Graduate University, the first APA-accredited distributed learning program in the United States. She completed both an internship and fellowship in child psychology and pediatric behavioral medicine at the Texas Child Study Center at Dell Children’s Medical Center, where she was instrumental in creating the Inpatient Consultation and Liaison Service and Emergency Department training rotation for predoctoral psychology interns. She earned her associate’s in nursing from Austin Community College and has more than 10 years of experience working as a surgical and obstetrical nurse. She has also completed training at Stanford University to become a certified Maudsley clinician.

Dr. Black is committed to a collaborative team approach that includes parents, primary care physicians, pediatricians, and any additional providers or family members who are participating in the patient's care. In addition to her clinical, academic, and research responsibilities, she enjoys mentoring and providing clinical supervision to predoctoral psychology interns and psychiatry residents and fellows.
