Kelly Gettig, APRN, MSN, CBIS, CIC, CPNP-PC/AC, is a licensed pediatric nurse practitioner and servers as both the Co-Director of the Traumatic Brain Injury/Concussion Clinic and the Lead Nurse Practitioner for Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation within UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children’s. She specializes in helping children and adolescents with acquired brain injuries manage their symptoms so that they can safely return to school, activities, and sports. Additionally, Kelly Gettig is both a health professional specialist and advance practice nurse in the Dell Medical School Department of Neurology. She also serves as a clinical instructor in nursing for The University of Texas at Austin Graduate School of Nursing.
Kelly Gettig earned her master’s in nursing from The University of Texas at Austin and a post-master’s certificate as a pediatric nurse practitioner in acute care from The University of Texas at Arlington. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree with a concentration in global health from Duquesne University. She is also a certified brain injury specialist and a credentialed ImPACT consultant. To become a credentialed ImPACT consultant, she attended a leading training program designed for healthcare professionals who want to provide best-in-class concussion care.
Kelly Gettig is passionate about traumatic brain injury (TBI) and concussion research and recovery, which she has lectured on at the local, regional, and national levels. Her goal is to educate parents and providers regarding best practice for the prevention and treatment of brain injury and to provide evidence-based clinical care to children in and out of the hospital setting. Her clinical focus involves pediatric rehabilitation, which she finds challenging, yet rewarding. As an inpatient rehab nurse practitioner, she enjoys guiding children and their parents through the process of recovery. She also believes in empowering patients and their families and optimizing outcomes through a multidisciplinary team approach.
