Luis Marcelo Argote-Greene, M.D., MBA, is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon in the Institute for Cardiovascular Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin. He specializes in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery for benign and malignant diseases of the chest, with a particular focus on lung cancer and complex pleural pathology. Additionally, Dr. Argote-Greene is an associate professor in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin, where he is actively involved in clinical care, academic development and program growth in thoracic surgery.

Dr. Argote-Greene completed his medical degree at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, followed by advanced clinical training, including clerkships at Baylor College of Medicine. He further refined his expertise through fellowships at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, with dedicated training in thoracic oncology and advanced thoracic surgery. He also completed the Summer Program in Clinical Effectiveness at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Argote-Greene earned an MBA in healthcare from George Washington University, strengthening his expertise in healthcare systems, leadership and program development.

Dr. Argote-Greene’s academic interests include thoracic oncology, outcomes research, surgical innovation and healthcare delivery optimization. He has contributed extensively to the surgical literature and has participated in national and international conferences as faculty, speaker and course organizer. He has also served on editorial boards, including the thoracic section of the Journal of Surgical Oncology, reflecting his commitment to advancing the field through scholarship and peer review. Dr. Argote-Greene is actively engaged in building high-performance thoracic surgery programs with a vision to achieve regional, national and international leadership. His work integrates clinical excellence, multidisciplinary collaboration, and strategic growth to improve access and outcomes for patients with thoracic diseases.
