Mark Pirwitz, MD, FACC

Clinical Biography

Mark Pirwitz, MD, FACC, is a board-certified cardiologist in the Institute for Cardiovascular Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin. He specializes in interventional cardiology and serves as director of the Ascension Seton heart valve program and physician executive of the Ascension Seton cardiovascular service line. Additionally, Dr. Pirwitz is chief of the Dell Medical School Division of Cardiology.

Dr. Pirwitz earned his medical degree at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, where he completed his internal medicine residency and fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology.

Dr. Pirwitz is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the Texas Medical Association, the Travis County Medical Society, the Ascension Seton Health Alliance Board of Directors. In addition, he serves as the president and CEO of the Ascension Seton Heart Institute, chair of the Ascension Seton Cardiovascular Clinical Care Council, chair of the Ascension Seton Interventional Cardiology Committee, co-chair of the Ascension Health Interventional Cardiology Affinity Group and co-director of the Ascension Seton Heart Research Institute. Dr. Pirwitz also conducts research in ongoing clinical trials focusing on coronary interventional devices and transcatheter valve therapies and is recognized for his leadership in the delivery of health care.
