Clinical Biography
Samuel D. Leonard, MD, is a vascular surgeon in the Institute for Cardiovascular Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin. He specializes in carotid artery disease and stroke prevention, dialysis access, mesenteric and renal arterial disease, fenestrated and branched endovascular aortic repair, thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms and dissections, and peripheral artery disease. Additionally, Dr. Leonard is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at The University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Leonard earned his bachelor’s degree in energy finance from The University of Texas at Austin and his medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed a residency in integrated vascular surgery at the McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where he served as chief resident under the tutelage of Dr. Hazim Safi and Dr. Gustavo Oderich. He also completed a fellowship in integrated vascular surgery at the McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Dr. Leonard is dedicated to providing committed and comprehensive care to his patients. He serves as an investigator on multiple national aortic endograft trials and has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles. He is member of the Society of Vascular Surgery, Travis County Medical Society, and Vascular and Endovascular Surgical Society.
Dr. Leonard is a vascular surgeon with UT Health Austin.

Clinical Research/Studies
Dr. Leonard’s research focuses on the treatment and care of carotid artery revascularization, peripheral artery disease, and aortic aneurysm and dissection. He has a particular interest in exploring the full spectrum of vascular disease, with an emphasis on minimally invasive endovascular repair for aortic aneurysms and dissections.
