Clinical Biography
Satoshi Furukawa, MD, is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with the Institute for Cardiovascular Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin. Dr. Furukawa delivers minimally invasive heart care and open-heart surgery to open narrow arteries, restore blood flow to the heart, repair leaky heart valves, and surgically correct chronic atrial fibrillation. He specializes in providing comprehensive care and is passionate about early recovery, allowing his patients to return to everyday activities quickly. He focuses on listening and understanding his patients and their health concerns; working with them to create a personalized care plan. Additionally, Dr. Furukawa serves as Professor of Medicine, Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School.
Dr. Furukawa earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he also completed two fellowships, one in research and one in cardiothoracic surgery. He completed a third fellowship in lung transplantation at Temple University Hospital.
Dr. Furukawa enjoys traveling, fishing, hiking, and pottery outside of the office.
