E. Steve Roach, MD

Clinical Biography

E. Steve Roach, MD, is a board-certified neurologist whose special clinical interests include children and adults with genetic disorders and cerebrovascular disorders in children and young adults. He serves as the Co-Chief of UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children’s, a clinical partnership between Dell Children's Medical Center and UT Health Austin. Dr. Roach is a professor of neurology and Associate Chair for Clinical Integration and Operations of the Department of Neurology at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School. Additionally, he serves as Assistant Dean for Faculty Academic Affairs at Dell Medical School.

Dr. Roach earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences. He trained in pediatrics and neurology at Wake Forest School of Medicine. Prior to joining UT Health Austin, he was the Wolf Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and served as neurologist-in-chief at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Roach has served in various clinical, academic, and research roles. He has authored or edited ten medical textbooks and more than 200 journal articles, many focusing on genetic neurological disorders or strokes in children and adults. Dr. Roach served as the editor-in-chief of Pediatric Neurology, a top-rated, peer-reviewed medical journal, and then became the founding editor of Annals of the Child Neurology Society. He is a former president of the Child Neurology Society, a 2,800-member organization of North American pediatric neurologists. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and various foundations and corporations.
