Steve Roach, MD

Clinical Biography

Steve Roach, MD, is a board-certified pediatric neurologist and the Chief of UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children’s, a clinical partnership between Dell Children's Medical Center and UT Health Austin. He leads the development of pediatric neurology and serves as the Section Chief for UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children’s. He specializes in autism, epilepsy, and neuromuscular conditions as well as other neurological diseases. Additionally, Dr. Roach is a professor and serves as the Associate Chair for Clinical Integration and Operations for the Dell Medical School Department of Neurology.

Dr. Roach earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences. He completed both an internship and residency in pediatrics as well as a second residency in pediatric neurology at Wake Forest School of Medicine. Prior to joining UT Health Austin, he was a professor of neurology and pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and served as Neurologist-in-Chief at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Roach has experience in a variety of clinical, academic, and research roles. He has led multiple neurology programs and held various academic appointments. He has authored or edited nine medical textbooks and more than 200 journal articles, many focusing on genetic neurological disorders or strokes in children and adults. Dr. Roach is the editor-in-chief of Pediatric Neurology, a top-rated, peer-reviewed medical journal, and a former president of the Child Neurology Society, a 1,800-member organization of North American pediatric neurologists. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and other various foundations and corporations.
