Kidney Mates Peer Mentorship Program
The Abdominal Transplant Center's Kidney Mates Peer Mentorship Program is designed for transplant recipients, individuals on the transplant waitlist or undergoing evaluation, living kidney donors, and those considering donation.
We understand that the transplant and donation journey can be challenging, and connecting with someone who truly understands what you’re going through can make all the difference. Kidney Mates bridges that gap by pairing you with a trained peer mentor who has lived through a similar experience and is ready to offer guidance, encouragement, and support tailored to your needs.
Whether you’re seeking support or eager to share your story and help others, this program fosters meaningful peer-to-peer connections that empower you every step of the way.
A Kidney Mates mentor is someone who has gone through the transplant or donation process and is trained to provide support, encouragement, and insight to others on a similar path. Mentors receive comprehensive training covering communication skills, storytelling, empathy, confidentiality, identifying red flags, and key talking points to ensure they’re fully prepared to support their peers.
